Free calls to Saudi Arabia

Telecom operator Dhiraagu has announced that their customers will be allowed to make free calls to Saudi Arabia from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday.

The announcement comes after family members of Maldivian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia were left worried after a construction crane collapsed inside Masjid al-Haram, killing 107 people and injuring 238.

The incident occurred at 5:10 pm local time on Friday during a powerful storm which is reported to have uprooted trees.

Maldivian government authorities have confirmed that no Maldivians were injured during the incident.

The tragedy took place at a time when thousands of Muslims from around the world have gathered in Mecca to take part in Hajj.

Telecom operator Ooredoo also made a similar gesture allowing for free calls to Saudi Arabia from 12 am to 3 am on Saturday.
