Ministry of Youth and Sports has signed an agreement with Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) for the construction of futsal grounds in Mahchangolhi and Maafannu in Malé.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Youth Ministry today, by Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Zuhoor and Managing Director of MRDC Ibrahim Nazeem.
Speaking at the ceremony, Youth Minister Zuhoor said that Malé faces a serious problem of lack of space, but it is the government’s priority to find temporary solutions and establish sports facilities for the youth.
He said that more sports facilities will be established in multi-storey buildings.
Zuhoor further said that the new futsal grounds would be of better quality, and the cost of each project is estimated at around MVR 2 million. The projects include installing lights, fences, and turf grass.
The futsal ground in Mahchangolhi will be located at Koshi 107, behind Ghiyaasuddin School, and the one in Maafannu will be located at the empty land between State Trade Organisation (STO) building and Maafannu Madharusa.
Projects have also been awarded to MRDC to construct futsal grounds in 22 islands and local sport bashi courts in 82 islands.
