High Court has upheld the not guilty verdict given by the lower court against Abdulla Algeen, in the corruption charge made against him by the State.
The State accused Algeen of corruption following money sent by a Japanese agency for a government project being deposited into Algeen’s personal account when he was the Director of the Department of Meteorology.
Algeen is President Abdulla Yameen’s brother.
Criminal Court said in its verdict that Algeen had denied the charge, and the State had not been able to present any evidence to prove that the money should have been deposited to Meteorology Department’s account.
High Court said in its verdict today that evidence presented by Algeen showed that the money was deposited into his personal account as requested by the Japanese agency.
High Court also noted that the State had failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove its charge against Algeen.
The court said that there are no grounds to differ from the lower court’s verdict.
The judges presiding over this case were Judge Sujau Usman, Judge Ali Sameer, and Judge Abdulla Hameed.
