New passport with new security to be introduced in January

Department of Immigration and Emigration has said that they have decided to introduce a new passport with a new security in January next year.

Speaking at a press conference today, the Controller of Immigration, Mohamed Anwar said that a new passport is to be issued starting next January.

He said that the new passport would have a “Polica Data Package” with all the security features introduced in the world so far.

“This new passport we are issuing would become the strongest, with the most security features and the latest passport in the region.” Controller Mohamed Anwar said.

He said that the printing of the passport is now underway and they can display it around November.

While the current Maldivian passport is nearly ten years old, CNN has recently revealed that the Maldivian passport is the strongest passport in South Asia.
