Amal Clooney meets with AG Anil

Member of former president Mohamed Nasheed’s international legal team, Amal Clooney, has met with Attorney General (AG) Mohamed Anil.

The meeting took place today from 11:20 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

Neither the AG Office nor Nasheed’s lawyers has shared any information with the media on what was discussed at the meeting.

Nasheed’s lawyer Hassan Latheef said that the meeting was successful and details will be provided to media tomorrow.

In addition to the AG, Amal has requested meetings with President Abdulla Yameen, Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and other senior officials of the government.

The government has appointed AG Anil as its representative in the discussions with Nasheed’s international legal team.

Amal visited Nasheed at Maafushi Prison yesterday.

The 13-year prison sentence against Nasheed has been appealed in High Court by the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office.

The first hearing of the appeal case has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today.

Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction in 2012, during his presidency, of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
