Former President, Mohamed Nasheed’s international team of lawyers has arrived in Maldives today.

Members of the MDP Leadership along with the MPs of MDP and a large number of MDP supports welcomed Amaal Clooney and Jared Genser of the former President’s defense team at the airport.

A statement released by the office of President Nasheed last night said that President Nasheed’s defense team has requested to meet with President Abdulla Yamin and the Vice President Ahmed Adheeb when they come to the Maldives.

The former President’s defense team also wants to meet with the Attorney General, Mohamed Anil, Foreign Minister, Dhunya Maumoon, Home Minister, Umar Naseer and the Prosecutor General, Muhthaaz Muhsin aside from President Yamin and Vice President Adheeb.

President Nasheed’s international team of lawyers would be departing on Thursday according to the former president’s office.

President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012 as the commander in chief, during his presidency. He was tried and convicted of terrorism.
