IIUM Alumni Call not to consider only to the Name of the Certificate

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Alumni Association of the Maldives has expressed its concerns and has sent letters to the concerning institutions, saying that it is not fair to give marks just for the name of the certificate while selecting judges for the superior courts.

The letter sent to the Judicial Service Commission, Chief Justice and People’s Majlis signed by the president of the association Hassan Fiyaz Moosa says that the graduates from College of Islamic Studies in the Maldives have more chances to score marks than the graduates from universities abroad due to the name of the degree program conducted by the College of Islamic Studies. The name of the degree program conducted by the College of Islamic Studies is “Bachelor of Arts in Sharia and Law”.

The letter also says that due to the marking scheme, marks could be given in an unjust way. They have also said in the letter that the marks have to be given according to the subjects taken in the degree program but not for the name of the degree program.
