The Housing Ministry has said that the woman died after getting hit by the post after the container truck lost control and hit the post.
The 24-year-old Azufa Zuhair died today at 2:28 p.m. while she was being treated in the emergency room at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Housing Ministry issued a statement tonight saying that the post that hit Azufa’s head was at the corner of Block 392, within the property visible to Izzuddeen Magu.
The Ministry said that the post was decorated as a palm tree on the occasion of the country’s 50th Independence Day.
The Housing Ministry said that while the tree’s leaves was decorated and to the road, the base of the post was mounted in the ground with steel and within the property for the safety of the traffic.
“The base of the post was within the property mounted to the ground with steel, and properly tied and secured from above.” Housing Ministry said.
The Ministry said that the post was set there after guaranteeing the safety and after it was set, high vehicles have travelled the road without incident.
Housing Ministry said that all employees of the ministry are saddened with the passing of a young person after sustaining serious injuries.
Police have said that the investigation has revealed so far that it was not an intentional collision by the truck driver. And that the investigation is still on going.
The funeral prayer for Azufa is scheduled for 12:30 a.m. tonight at the Islamic Center.
The 24-year-old medical student studying in Russia was in the country on her holidays. Sources say that she was supposed to go back tomorrow.
