Dhiraagu provides 3G service to 98 percent of population

Dhiraagu, Maldives’ first telecom company, has said that its 3G mobile broadband service is now available to 98 percent of the population.

CEO Ismail Rasheed announced this at a press conference at Dhiraagu Head Office on Thursday.

Ismail Rasheed said that the provision of 3G service to the 40 islands given to Dhiraagu was completed this month.

“We always follow government policies, and provide assistance to development projects. We are proud to receive these projects and do our best to complete them within the given timeframe,” Ismail Rasheed said.

He further said that efforts are ongoing to expand broadband service, and the purpose of installing a submarine cable across the country in 2012 was to provide broadband service to all islands.

Speaking at the press conference, Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer thanked Dhiraagu for its cooperation in the government’s efforts to provide public services.
