President pardons VTV vandal serving seven-year prison sentence

Hussain Shifau Jameel, sentenced to seven years in prison following the attack on VTV building in 2012, has been pardoned by President Abdulla Yameen.

Correctional Service Spokesperson Moosa Zameer told Sun Online that the pardon was granted in accordance with the Clemency Act.

President Yameen has also pardoned four others, in addition to Shifau.

A group of protesters threw stones at the VTV building as well as security officers guarding the building, in a protest led by Maldives Democratic Party on 12 March 2012.

Another individual convicted of vandalism following this attack, Mohamed Hameed, has also been pardoned by the president.
