President Nasheed has been brought onto the vehicle to be taken back to prison

Former President Mohamed Nasheed who was sentenced to 13 years in prison and was under house arrest has been taken back to prison.

The former President was taken on the vehicle of Correctional Services moments ago.

The Media Official of the Maldives Correctional Service, Hassan Rameez confirmed to Sun Media that they are taking the former President back to prison.

“After reviewing the reports from the doctors, the decision was made ( to change to prison).” Rameez said.

When asked when the former President would be transferred back to prison, he said that “that information cannot be shared yet.”

The former President was moved to house arrest on 21 June under doctor’s advisement to move him to a stress free environment. The Correctional Services said that after two months, President Nasheed in being taken back to prison after reviewing the doctor’s reports.

President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed. in 2012 as the commander in chief, during his presidency.

The Sun Media Journalist Adam Nazeer in the area of M. Yaagoothuge, where President Nasheed was under house arrest, says that the van from the Correctional Services is currently near the house.

Journalist Nazeer said that while Nasheed’s supporters are at the scene voicing their protest, Police have used pepper spray.
