Boat carrying sand sinks off Thilafushi

A boat carrying sand has sunk while on its way to Thilafushi, at around 11:00 a.m. today.

The number of people onboard at the time of the incident is unclear.

Sun Online has received a video, which shows crew members jumping into the sea as the boat began to sink near the jetty in Thilafushi.

The sea was calm and the boat is believed to have sunk due to being overloaded.

Sources have told Sun Online that the vessel belongs to The Hawks Private Limited.
