Heavy Hulhangu or South-West Monsoon rain has flooded the streets of Male’.
Rain poured non-stop from 11:30 am flooding streets including the area in Boduthakurufaanu Magu near Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Ameenee Magu and Buruzu Magu.
Meanwhile turbulent waves have forced government authorities to issue yellow alert for travel in areas between Meemu Atoll and Lhaviyani Atoll from 12:10 to 2:10.
Bad weather also resulted in lightning striking STO Head Office plunging the whole building into darkness, and lightning striking again on a launch headed to Hulhule’ from Male’.
Electricity has been brought back to STO Head Office while the captain of the launch who was injured when lightning struck his launch is receiving treatment at IGMH.
Met Office announced that bad weather was expected to continue the coming 24 hours, with islands in central atolls expected to catch the worst of it.
