PG asks to expedite Imran trial

Prosecutor General (PG) Muhthaz Muhsin has requested Criminal Court to expedite the trial against President of Adhaalath Party, Imran Abdulla.

Information Officer of PG Office Mohamed Nihan told Sun Online that the PG made this request today, in a letter to the Criminal Court.

Imran was charged with terrorism after being accused of inciting violence at a protest on 1 May 2015.

The protest culminated in several police officers being attacked by protesters.

Imran has denied the charge, and said that he never encouraged unrest.
