Trial has begun on the man who was charged with the murder of the Bangladeshi national, Baand Shahumiya, who was found murdered at house in L. Gan last June.
The state has charged Ali Hamza (L. Gan) with the first degree murder in the murder of Baand Shahumiya.
In today’s hearing of the trial, in the opening statement, the state prosecutor said that they charge Ali Hamza with first degree murder for assaulting Baan Shahumiya on the face with a wood beam of three feet while he was asleep on 9 June 2015.
The defendant responded to the charge saying that he wants to respond to the charge in the presence of a lawyer.
Judge Abdulla Nasheed has given a period of five days to assign a lawyer.
And the judge ordered Hamza into Police custody until the end of his trial.
