Preparations being made for world record flag

Home Ministry has said that they are preparing to break the world record for the largest fabric flag.

Deputy Minister at the Home Ministry, Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) told Sun Media today that the world record attempt with the fabric flag would be held before the year ends.

“It’s difficult to say the exact date of the event. It would be held before November.” Deputy Minister Saleem said.

He said that the size of the flag and the even location has not been finalized yet. But said that he believes it would be held at Hulhumalé.

The latest world record with a fabric flag was made in Tunisia in May 2014 with their national flag. With more than a 100 people at a large vacant land, the flag used weighed more than 12.6 tons. The organizers of that event say that an area of 80 kilometers was used to spread the flag.

Aside from fabric flags, some countries have made world records by gathering in a group a “human-flag.” And some countries have made the world record for the highest flag post.
