President Abdulla Yameen, Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and several ministers have signed the Book of Condolence honouring India's former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
The president, vice president and ministers were welcomed at the Indian High Commission by High Commissioner Rajeev Shahare and Deputy High Commissioner Sanjay Rana.
The President’s Office said that President Yameen’s condolence message read as follows: “The former President’s legacy as a leader of firm conviction and profound knowledge will inspire generations of South Asians for many years to come. My people join me in extending our profound sympathy to the government and neighbourly people of India, at this time of national mourning.”
The Indian High Commission opened the Book of Condolence on 28 July.
India has announced a week of mourning following the former president's death on Monday.
Abdul Kalam, aged 84, collapsed while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, and died later at the hospital.
