Baby born out of wedlock dies in Thulhaadhoo

Police have initiated an investigation following reports of the death of a baby born to an unmarried mother in Baa Thulhaadhoo.

Sources have told Sun Online that the 18-year-old girl gave birth in the bathroom in her home in the island, at around 9:00 a.m. today.

Thulhaadhoo Council Vice President Ahmed Rasheed said that no one knew the girl was pregnant until she gave birth, and the baby was dead when it was born.

The cause of death has not been determined. Both mother and baby are in police custody.

Police have refused to provide details citing the ongoing investigation.
