Man who died at sea identified as Maldivian Honorary Consul General to Germany

Foreign Ministry has said that the man who died earlier today while swimming at Paradise Island Resort was Gottfried Mücke, the Maldivian Honorary Consulate General in Germany Gottfried who was in the country on invitation for the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed that it was Mr. Mücke and that they would be supporting his family however they can.

The 83-year-old Gottfried Mücke has served as the Honorary Consulate General for 32 years. The Foreign Ministry said that the news of his death came with a deep sadness and that he has kept a close relationship with the Maldives.
