President advices not to allow anything that could hinder the independence

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has advised not to allow anything that could hinder the national independence even a little.

Speaking to the nation at the flag raising ceremony on Independence Day, President Abdulla Yamin said that it is a blessing to the Maldivian people that the country retained it’s independence in it’s 862 years as an Islamic state and even after that.

“Looking at the 200 or so country in the world right now, the number of countries with a proud history like this is few. The Maldivian independence is a blessing, a huge honor and pride.” President Yamin said.

Noting that the true source of the national independence is the gift of great sacrifice by our forefathers, President Yamin said that the biggest responsibility on our shoulders today is to protect that independence.

The President said that the people have to be true and sincere to make the nation an independent one. And he advised the people to face all the challenges to the country with patience.

“I advise not to allow anything, even something small, that could hinder our independence even a little. Show our gratitude to the honorable former president Ibrahim Nasir for his efforts to maintain our independence. And show gratitude to the efforts made by President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.” President Yamin said.

The President also said that the children have to be taught the work done by our forefathers on different occasions to gain our independence. And he prayed that the national independence be eternal.
