Head of Financial Intelligence resigns

Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Ibrahim Athif Shukoor has resigned from his position.

Information Officer of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ahmed Fazaal Hussain told Sun Media today that Athif resigned sometime last month. No further information was given on the matter.

Financial Intelligence Unit was established under the law against financing terrorism and money laundering.

The power to appoint a head to the unit is reserved for the governor of MMA.

Responsibilities of the Financial Intelligence Unit includes researching how terroris

m financing and money laundering takes place, the changes in how it is done, detecting money laundering and tactics to combat them.
