Runway construction project awarded to Chinese company

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed an agreement with China's Sinohydro Corporation Limited for the construction of a new runway at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Hulhulé Island Hotel this morning.

The project will see the construction of a longer runway at INIA, following which the present runway will be used for taxiing.

Also, the present runway will be repaired and 102 hectares of land will be reclaimed under this project.
