Leader of PPM’s Parliamentary Group and the MP for Vili-Malé constituency, Ahmed Nihaan Hussain Manik has said that the President of the Party and the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has no concerns about the Parliamentary Group working to replace the current Vice President of the country, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
Responding to a question from Sun Media, MP Nihaan said that he does not know if the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is either unhappy or otherwise about the replacement of the Vice President.
“It’s not that, he was unhappy with our recent change to the constitution. And shared that concern with us. But there is nothing on the severance of Jameel.” MP Nihaan said.
While the No Confidence motion against the Vice President has not made it into the Parliament yet, Nihaan said that a date for the motion would be decided after the session starts tomorrow.
The Parliamentary Groups of PPM and MDA decided to take a vote of no confidence against the Vice President Dr. Jameel to the Parliament on Friday.
Article 100 of the Constitution says that a No Confidence motion can be presented to the Parliament with signatures of one third of the Parliament. Which is 29 of the 85 MPs.
Last Friday, MP Nihaas said that more than 57 votes are need at the Vote of No Confidence against the Vice President. He said that the MPs of MDP and JP would also be signing the motion.
