Maldives Police Service has said that 28 cases of theft and robbery was reported in the first week of this Ramadan and compared to the previous year, it is a low figure.
Inspector of Police, Ahmed Hussain told Sun Media today that while 28 cases have been reported to the Police which is a substantially low compared to last year.
“28 in one week means it’s very low. Robberies took place on the road.” Inspector Ahmed Hussain said.
He said that over a 100 cases of theft and robbery are reported on a normal month hence 28 is very low.
The Inspector said that Police have always been conducting operations to lower the crime rate in Ramadan and with proper patrolling of the streets, the reported crimes are fewer.
Looking back, the previous Ramadans are noted for high crime rates in theft and robbery. Street robberies are especially increased close to Iftar while theft from houses increase closer to midnight.
