STO suspends wholesale of eggs

State Trading Organisation (STO) has temporarily ceased wholesale of eggs.

Head of STO Supermarket Fathimath Ashan said that in the meantime eggs will be sold (retail) at the STO Supermarket, and wholesale will resume on Sunday.

She said that the purpose of suspending wholesale was to ensure wider distribution.

The retail price of an egg is MVR 1.50.

STO was selling egg cases wholesale at MVR 250.

The price of an egg case at the local market is MVR 600.
