Companies interested in developing S. Gan Airport to are welcome to submit applications.
Gan Airport is currently being operated by Addu International Airport Private Limited, a company created by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) which is 100 percent owned by the government; State Trading Organisation which is jointly owned by government and the public; and Gan International Airport Private Limited.
An announcement in the government gazette on 28 April indicates that Gan Airport needs to be developed as a joint venture, which will include development of runway and apron, as well as carrying out the rehabilitation project. The company would also have the opportunity to carry out other work related to Gan airport under the joint venture.
Gan Airport Company said that the opportunity is open to local and foreign companies until 28 May. The government had earlier indicated that finance for this project will be received from several banks including Asian Development Bank (ADB).
