A boat which was stopped from departing from Malé to Meemu Dhiggaru late last night by police, has been released after being searched for drugs.
Police dogs were used to search “Royal 10” after police received information to indicate that there were drugs onboard.
The police spokesperson told Sun Online that the boat has been released, and no one was arrested.
He declined to comment when asked if drugs had been found on the boat.
Voting is ongoing today for the Dhiggaru By-election, in all islands in the Dhiggaru constituency and Malé.
Main opposition party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for the election Ahmed Razee told Sun Online that the boat had been hired to take about 30 people from Malé to Dhiggaru to vote.
