Charges against 32 people have been brought up regarding the May Day protest

Charges have been brought up against 32 people regarding the opposition protest on 1 May.

The Media Official of the PG’s Office said that they received the case files of 32 people for prosecution over the past week. And they have been charged with different crimes under the Police law.

The crimes mentioned in the Police law are obstruction of Police duty and assaulting a Police officer.

According to the law, if convicted of those crimes, the convicted are fined MVR 12,000 or receives six months of house arrest.

The Prosecutor General, Muhthaaz Muhsin has said previously that there were the cases of 143 people sent to the PG’s Office regarding the May Day protest. From those, a 128 cases were accepted while 15 were sent back to Police to amend.
