The press banned from the trial of Maazin

Judge Saeed Ibrahim has decided to ban the press from the courtroom for the hearing at the trial of the suspects involved in the murder of Ahmed Maazin (N. Milandhoo).

When Sun journalists went to attend the 11 p.m. hearing at the Criminal Court today, the staff said that press have been banned from the courtroom for the hearing. They said that the reason for the ban does not have to be told.

Presenting the testimonies from the state witnesses were scheduled for today’s hearing.

The press was banned on the first hearing of the trial as well. Regarding the matter, the Media Official of the Criminal Court said that it was at the request of the PG’s Office.

But the Media Official of the PG’s Office said that they have not requested that the press be banned from the courtroom at the trial of Maazin’s murder.

He said that the state only asked for a closed hearing for witness testimonies but did not ask for a closed trial.

It is unclear why the press has been banned from this trial while the press has been allowed into the courtroom for all the other murder trials thus far.

The state has charged Haanif Imthiyaz, Ismail Usham, Midhuhath Ibrahim and Moosa Hussain with terrorism in the death of Ahmed Maazin.

Maazin was attacked with a sharp object leaving 11 wounds on his body. He died at the ICU of IGM hospital after the doctors at ADK Hospital lost hope after treating him.

Police said that Maazin was killed for being mistaken for someone else.
