Imran: Don

President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said that he is not working to overthrow an elected government and gain power.

Speaking at the opposition event “To end tyranny” held at Artificial Beach tonight, Sheikh Imran said that the opposition is working to reclaim the rights of the people. He said that the government was asked to hold discussions with the opposition previously as well. Imran said that if the government is honest about the discussion, the opposition would be twice as much.

“We will show twice the honesty and discuss, ease the tension in the nation right now, find a peaceful happy life for the people and we are ready to move forward peacefully with the government. If the government is honest, starting this week we are determined to move forward honestly.” Sheikh Imran said.

Sheikh Imran was arrested by the Police regarding the opposition protest on 1 May. High Court ordered the release of the Sheikh and change him to house arrest. The High Court decided that after Imran appealed the extension of his remand by ten days from the Criminal Court.

Speaking at tonight’s event, Sheikh Imran said that working for justice does not stop when one is changed to prison. He said that everyone should be more determined in the just path.

“Although things happened on May Day that none of us wanted or hoped and as a result, as we always say, the proud Police and some of our beloved citizens sustained a loss that none of was wanted or hoped for, May Day was a day we achieved a complete success.” Sheikh Imran said.

He said that the opposition’s work by getting out on the streets rising voices and speaking different things events is to protect their rights. The sheikh said that the opposition activities would not violate anyone’s rights. And to this day he has never called for harm to any citizen.

Sheikh Imran said that it is not easy to steer a country that has strayed from the right path.
