The minor charged with terrorism following the death of Ahmed Nizar, Woodland, Thundi, Laamu Gan, has been sentenced to 16 years and eight months in prison by Juvenile Court.
The defendant’s age at the time of the murder was 17.
Nizar was found dead at 2:23 a.m. on 15 July 2013 on Sinaaee Magu in Laamu Gan. Wooden planks and iron rods used to attack Nizar were found near his body by the police.
The court said in its verdict that although the defendant denied the charges, two people had testified to having seen him attack Nizar.
Testimonies provided in court also proved that the defendant, acting with a group of other people, planned to attack a particular person at a specified location using wooden planks and iron planks, the court said.
The court further said that even though the exact weapon used was unknown, the medical report stated that Nizar had been attacked in the head, and evidence presented in court were sufficient to prove that Nizar died as a result of the injuries suffered in the assault.
