First Police operation in the atolls with the K9 unit starts at L. atoll

The largest Police operation against illegal drugs and alcohol with the K9 unit has started in L. atoll.

Police said that all the islands in the atoll including inhabited, uninhabited and industrial islands would be searched in this operation.

And the places belonging to people suspected of importing illegal drugs and alcohol to the atoll would be searched as well.

This is the first Police operation of the like being conducted in the atolls.

The Head of the North Wing of the Divisional Command, Superintendent Mohamed Riyaz said that aside from targeting drugs and alcohol, other criminal activities would also be targeted in this operation.

Police have recently brought in dogs to the country in an effort to stop the drug trade. Succesful operations with the K9 squad has been conducted in Male’ City. And in a special operation in K. Maafushi, the K9 squad was used to find drugs at the Maafushi Prison.
