Parliamentary Group Leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that before attempting to engage in discussions with opposition parties, the government should facilitate an environment conducive for dialogue.
Ibrahim said that MDP was prepared to do the necessary to find solutions, but discussions were unlikely to be fruitful if they are conducted as recently proposed by the President.
Jumhooree Party (JP) and Adhaalath Party (AP) have appointed representatives to attend the discussions with the government. MDP has not made any announcement in this regard.
Ibrahim said that MDP will send a letter to the government on Sunday, detailing its response to the government’s invitation for dialogue.
MDP has said that its National Council will appoint a representative soon, to participate in the discussions with the government.
The government has called on opposition parties to prioritise public interest instead of individual interests, and also announced three areas that will be focused on during the discussions.
