Pension Office Finance Forum begins at Kurumba Maldives

The Finance Forum organised by the Maldives Pension Administration Office is under way at Kurumba Maldives.

The inaugural speech was given by Chairperson of Pension Board, Athifa Ali.

Athifa said that the forum aims to strengthen the local financial sector, and that discussions will be held regarding improving the pension scheme.

She announced that efforts are ongoing to introduce housing and disability schemes.

Noting that more people are choosing to invest in the pension fund, Athifa said that the forum will help put forward constructive ideas to improve the pension system.

The forum is attended by representatives of the World Bank, Bhutan Pension Fund, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA), Ministry of Finance, banks, and private companies.

The local pension scheme is run under guidance from the World Bank, and experts from the World Bank will share their experiences at the forum. Other officials who will address the forum include an economist representing the World Bank, an expert from Bhutan Pension Fund, Minister of State for Finance Ahmed Munawwar, Registrar of Companies Mariyam Visam, CEO of Pension Office Mohamed Hussain Manik, and CEO of CMDA Ahmed Naseer.

A panel discussion will be held during the forum regarding the development of a bond market in the Maldives.

This is the fourth Financial Forum organised by the Pension Office.
