Two minors receive death penalty for Hussain Waheed

Juvenile Court has found two minors guilty of murder and accessory to murder, and sentenced them to death.

The court said in its verdict that the minor charged with murder denied the charge, however, four out of five people who testified against the accused in court said that they saw him stab Hussain Waheed in the chest.

Regarding the minor who was charged with accessory to murder, the court said that three people testified in court that they witnessed the minor who stabbed Hussain Waheed, escape the scene by getting on a motorcycle driven by the minor charged with accessory to murder.

The court said that the charges against the two minors were proved in court beyond doubt.

Hussain Waheed died after being stabbed at around 10:30 p.m. on 24 December 2013 near Coffee Corner in Malé.

The court said documents and testimonies were also received to indicate that the minors carried out the murder out of vengeance.

The court further noted that Hussain Waheed’s nine heirs had asked for the death sentence for the convicts.

The two minors are aged 16.
