Prisoner dies at Maafushi Prison

A prisoner has died at Maafushi Prison on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Lishan, 23. He was executing a ten-year sentence.

Information Officer of Correctional Service Moosa Rameez told Sun Online that he died while receiving treatment from prison doctors after experiencing chest pains.

He said that the exact cause of death remains unclear.

Information Officer of Ministry of Home Affairs Thamzeel Abdul Samad also confirmed that a prisoner had died, and said that he died a natural death.

He said that Lishan was treated by prison officers and taken on a prison vehicle to Maafushi Health Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Thamzeel assured that there was no unrest.
