I will not make unrealistic promises: President Waheed

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that he will not lie or make unrealistic promises.

Addressing the people of Hirimaradhoo yesterday as part of his current visit to Hdh. Atoll, the President said that the government will make efforts to address the needs of the people of Hirimaradhoo, and that he will not make unrealistic promises.

“What I am trying to tell you is that I will not make up stories. I will not make any unrealistic promises. But I assure you that I will try to address your needs and improve what needs improvement in the island,” he said.

Noting the large number of youth in Noomara, the President said that much needs to be done for the development of Hirimaradhoo. He promised to include about Rf30m in next year’s budget for the development of Hirimaradhoo. The President also said that the opinion of the people would be considered in deciding the areas the budget would be spent on.

The President further noted that over the past three years, government assistance had been provided only to islands of a certain colour. Any island where the council did not belong to a political party was neglected. As Noomara never paid much attention to political parties, not much attention was given to this island.

President Waheed said that he had started work to build a house on a piece of land owned by him in Hdh. Hanimaadhoo.

“I have started building a house about fifteen minutes from this island, in Hanimaadhoo. So god willing, I will come here again soon. I have no idea how I ended up in Hanimaadhoo. I had applied for a piece of land there about ten years ago. So now I am also a citizen of Hanimaadhoo. I will build a small house there, and visit often,” President Waheed said.
