Recently ousted Vice President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Alhan Fahmy’s protest to call for a free and ‘new MDP’ has ended in unrest.
Alhan commenced the protest with a few supporters at Raalhugan’du area this evening, by saying that MDP is being influenced by its leader Mohamed Nasheed. Alhan called for Nasheed’s resignation.
A large crowd of MDP supporters soon gathered and began protesting against Alhan. Alhan and two of his younger siblings were distributing flags saying ‘New MDP’.
Alhan said that Nasheed had hijacked the party administration such that its President and Vice President could not carry out their responsibilities.
When Alhan took to the streets and called to free MDP, supporters of MDP followed him chanting, ‘Alhan is a traitor’.
Alhan and his siblings protested on Sosun Magu and Majeedee magu, calling Nasheed ‘a traitor’.
When Alhan ended his protest at Raalhugan’du area, MDP supporters surrounded him and raised their voices. They continued to follow him to Trends Restaurant.
