Maldives Police Service has said that based on what they “see and hear”, the opposition activity planned for 1 May cannot be perceived as a peaceful activity.
Speaking at the meeting with high officials of MDP at Iskandharu Koshi today, the Head of the Central Operations Command, Superintendent Abdulla Shareef noted that threats of different sorts are being sent out during opposition activities as of late, and high ranking officials of some political parties have spoken in that manner.
Superintendent Shareef said that some people are talking in a manner that threatens national security. And that the Police will not allow such a thing.
The Superintendent of Police also said that while political parties are organizing rallies to voice their opinions, it is important to clearly state that who it is that is taking responsibility for an event. And the best way to resolve something if the situation calls for it would be to hold discussions.

Ali Waheed also said that he guarantees the support to the Police in their work to uphold the law. And said that guarantees that they would not be doing anything outside of the law on 1 May.
Aside from MDP, Police also met with Jumhooree Party.
