Maldivian to send flight to evacuate Maldivians from Nepal

President Abdulla Yameen has decided to send a flight of national airline Maldivian to Nepal to evacuate Maldivians following the earthquake which hit the country on Saturday.

This has been confirmed to Sun Online by President Yameen’s Spokesperson, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, who said that efforts in this regard were ongoing in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He said that the flight will depart from Maldives en route to Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.

A Foreign Ministry official said that there are about 100 Maldivian students in Nepal, and efforts were ongoing to bring them home temporarily following their request.

Over 3,000 people are now known to have died in the powerful earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday.
