Thariq: The damages to Maldives due to climate change is on the rise

The Minister of Environment, Thariq Ibrahim has said that the damages to the Maldives due to climate change are on the rise.

Speaking at that inauguration ceremony of the two-day National Climate Convention hosted with help of World Meterological Organization (WMO) and Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), Minister Thariq said that citizens need to be informed of the information about climate change.

“…The damages to Maldives due to climate change is increasing day by day. So we have to be aware of the impacts of climate change and inform the citizens.” Minister said.

The Minister also advised the media to bring more information on the climate to the public.

“…Since there are a lot of medias in the country, especially TV channels, I ask them to being daily reports to the public.” Minister said.

Today’s ceremony was attended by high officials of the Maldives Meterological Center and other institutes. Officials from WMO and RIMES would be speaking in the convention.
