Water sports contests kick off in Mal

Water sports contests to mark the country’s 50 years of Independence have kicked off in Malé this morning.

The events held between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. were swimming, catamaran sailing, and tug of war in small boats.

Home Minister Umar Naseer participated in the catamaran event.

Teams representing Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have reached the final in the tug of war.

Home Ministry announced earlier that the winner of the swimming competition will secure a spot at the Indian Ocean Island Games.

The activities will continue throughout the day on Friday.
