Part of Huravee Building given to run Male

The floor which was previously used to run the Gender Ministry at the Huravee Building has been given to Male’ City Council.

The State Minister of the Housing Ministry, Hassan Rasheed told Sun Media tonight that the floor on Huravee Building was assigned to the City Council at a ceremony held at the Housing Ministry today.

He said that the Deputy Director General of the City Council, Ibrahim Rameez signed the agreement today. And the Deputy Minister, Abdulla Fayaz represented the Housing Minister.

Sources say that the decision to take the current City Council Building at Billoorige was made at a cabinet meeting on Monday night.

The Deputy Mayor of Male’ City Council, Shifa Mohamed told Sun Media tonight that the Housing Ministry has ordered to clear the building in three days but it would not happen so since it is not an appropriate duration to do so. And the Housing Ministry has been notified today.

“We cannot change. We have clearly stated with a letter. Because it is not even an appropriate duration, because we believe that we, civil servants, cannot go into those places.” Shifa said.

Although the Deputy Mayor has said so, the Mayor of Male’ City, Mohamed Shihab has said that the members at the City Council are not people who want to work at a specific place. And if the place allocated by the government is a place that can provide their services to the people, then that is not a problem.

“If we are getting an appropriate space then it would be good. But without consulting us, changing us in seven days would be a very difficult task.” Mayor Shihab said.
