Rotary Club donates USD 10,000 to operate Keyodhoo water plant

A member of Rotary Club of Maldives has said that they have donated USD 10,000 (MVR 154,200) to repair and operate the water plant if V. Keyodhoo.

The member said that six month worth of money for plant repairs, operation, spare parts, and filters and hiring an operator to the plant has been given.

The water plant capable of producing six tons of water per day was donated to the island after the 2004 tsunami. Keyodhoo Island Council said that the plant has not been in use for over three years after damages.

Talking to Sun Media, the President of the Keyodhoo Council, Ahmed Yousuf said that the water plant would start supply starting the first of May. And that the water would be sold to sustain the service. And so a liter of water would be sold to MVR 0.80. The water would be sold to the people of Keydhoo and the boats at the Keyodhoo harbor.

“We have not expanded to service individual houses yet but that is our aim.” Yousuf said.

Rotary Club of Maldives aided Keyodhoo with the help of a rotary club in Australia.

Rotary Club is a global charity organization that has been active for over 110 years and has been established in almost every country in the world. The Rotary Club in Maldives was established in the February of 2013.
