Kane hits 30th goal of season as Tottenham beats Newcastle

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Harry Kane became the first Tottenham player since Gary Lineker to score 30 goals in a season on Sunday by completing a 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old striker accepted Erik Lamela's pass in stoppage time to round off a lightening break. It had been 23 years since Lineker passed the 30-goal mark in a Tottenham shirt.

"I'm very proud but there's still five games left so hopefully I can get a few more goals and it doesn't stop here," Kane said of his remarkable breakthrough season.

Christian Eriksen had restored Tottenham's lead shortly after the second half opened with Jack Colback canceling out Nacer Chadli's first-half goal for Tottenham.

Thousands of Newcastle fans stayed away in protest at owner Mike Ashley's ownership and the team is now only seven points clear of the bottom three.

Tottenham is sixth, seven points behind Manchester City in the fourth and final Champions League qualification place.

"We had two disappointing performances in the last couple of weeks and we wanted to put it right," Kane said.
