President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today decided to assign a ministerial sub-committee to reconstitute the Fiqh Academy, which is currently being administered by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The decision was made following discussions on the matter at today’s cabinet meeting.
The ministerial sub-committee consists of Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Home Affairs Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, and Minister of Housing and Environment Dr Mohamed Muiz.
The President’s Office reported that the main objective of reconstituting the academy is to include a high number of Islamic Scholars, and scholars specialized in the different areas of Philosophical Studies.
The cabinet advised the President to include women in the Academy, and also to give preference to those who are well respected in the community and not active in political affairs, when appointing the President and Vice President of the academy.
