Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that Parliament’s approval for the cabinet and Vice President appointed by President Mohamed Waheed has helped calm the political situation in the Maldives.
Speaking at a function held to welcome the new coalition government by the people of Koarukendi magu and Buruzu magu junction at around 10:30 last night, Gayoom said that that was an extremely important decision by the Parliament, which has helped quieten down the people chanting ‘traitors’.
“The decision to approve the President’s cabinet and Vice President has helped calm the political situation,” Gayoom said.
The function was attended by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Jumhooree Party President Gasim Ibrahim, PPM Parliamentary Group Leader Abdullah Yameen, Members of Parliament, and cabinet members.
‘Bondibaiy’ was served at the function and Thulusdhoo boduberu group gave a performance.
