Dr Muizzu: Ministry has not obstructed housing efforts in Dharavandhoo

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the ministry has not done anything to obstruct housing efforts in Baa Dharavandhoo.

In an interview to Sun Online, Dr Muizzu denied the rumours and said that the government has in fact informed Dharavandhoo Council and Baa Atoll Council to initiate the application process for housing in the island.

Dharavandhoo Council has also been asked to allocate land for developmental projects and inform the ministry, the minister said.

He added that he was saddened by the fact that the council, instead of working to provide housing as advised by the ministry, spreads rumours saying that the government was obstructing its efforts.

Dr Muizzu further said that the project to relocate people from Lhaviyani Maafilaafushi is one of the government’s high-priority projects, and that people of Maafilaafushi have been advised to inform the government if they wish to be relocated to a region other than the Malé region.

He said that 13 parties in Maafilaafushi have informed the ministry that they wish to be relocated to Dharavandhoo.

Criticising Dharavandhoo Council, Muizzu said that the council has purposefully misled the public, and reiterated that the government will not obstruct housing efforts or any other project in a manner that makes things difficult for the people.
