Home Minister authorizes the use dogs in police operations

Home Minister, Umar Naseer has authorized the use of dogs in Police operations.

In a previous interview with Sun Media, the Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed said that once the Home Minister authorizes the use of dogs, a special uniform would be prepared for them. And promotions would be given after evaluating their work.

“After evaluating Faara (K9 Unit), promotions would also be given. Ranks would go up to Sargent, after evaluation.” Commissioner said.

While the 16 dogs in Faaragema (K9 Unit) has been brought to the Maldives, the dogs are being trained for the job now, says the Commissioner Waheed.

The Commissioner also said that the dongs would be used in court ordered searches of houses and places and that would speed up the police work and achieve more.

Maldives Police Service has requested the National Language Academy to pass the 16 names for the dogs in the K9 unit. So far there has been no word from the Language Academy on the matter.
