A police officer has been attacked on Majeedhee Magu at dusk today inflicting injuries to his face and mouth.
The suspect involved has been arrested by the Police.
Police said that the officer attacked was Staff Sargent Khalid Abdulla of Vilimale’ Police Station. With wounds to his face and mouth and bruising to his head, he is currently receiving medical treatment at IGMH.
The Police said that the attack on Khalid Abdulla took place around 6 p.m. at the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Maaveyo Magu by a 40-year-old Maldivian man on Majeedhee Magu.
According to the police, the man arrested has a record with the Police for different crimes including vandalism, using violent weapons, threatening with a weapon and obstruction of police.
He has been searched 19 times and brought into police custody 9 times, arrested four times and two cases have been sent to the prosecutor general after completing the investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed condemned the attack of Staff Sargent Khalid Abdulla saying that a cowardly attack on the police implementing the law would not stop the police from their work of protecting the people. And after the investigation, the police would pursue to prosecute for the full extent of the law.
